Foreign Language

A teacher teaches with words, gestures, body, with sense of humor, with enthusiasm, with patience, in an appropriate climate, with consistency. In the art of teaching English, empower and optimize the use of these resources.

Create the need to communicate in English our aim is to teach English to our students have a new tool to communicate with members of their communities and beyond, that knowledge and good management of it, I mean a greater openness to the world around them.

For this reason, we must “create the need for our students to communicate in English” and this should guide our actions as teachers. For this to be possible, there are certain conditions that must be: give time, be clear benchmarks, promote relevant learning in meaningful contexts.

Give time. It is true that there are different stages of development of a second language in the early years, but the strategies are put into play the teacher, which facilitate and speed in children using the language. I refer to the time that must be taken to reiterate everything said by English students in their native language, any comments, questions, and then wait for them to repeat it in English, as they can and even with your help. It is important, by all means, resorting to translation.

Being clear referent. The teacher should always address their students in English and clearly that to get what they want or receiving a response, the girls must do so in English. It is essential that they feel that can go wrong and nothing will happen. We consider “mission accomplished” if our students “think” we do not speak another language more than we teach.

Promote relevant learning in meaningful contexts. It is not isolated vocabulary teaching of various subjects but of selecting and transmitting knowledge concerning age-appropriate topics, interest and need of the students. Language should be presented in natural contexts and in everyday life situations rather forced and artificial situations. It is necessary to employ the physical environment as a motivator for learning.
